Sex and the City Movie Review

Without even the film’s marketers doing much, Sex and the City is already the chick flick movie event of the year. When the television series ended with Carrie’s and Mr Big’s happily-ever-after in 2004, it was a finale that only left fans wanting more. What would become of the super-couple now that they’re together? How would sex-crazed Samantha ever be in a long-term relationship with movie star Smith Jerrod? How long more can total opposites Miranda and Steve tolerate each other? And idealistic Charlotte, now with the child she’s been dreaming of – how will she cope as a mother? Those questions, and more, are addressed in the movie.

It seems though that the philosophy director and writer Michael Patrick King adhered to while making this flick was ‘If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’. So expect to see a lot of fabulous fashion, cocktails, glamorous New York City living and of course, issues of romance and relationships. Honestly, at 2 and a half hours long, only die-hard fans would have the patience to sit through what feels like an extended episode of season six. The plodding pace doesn’t help either as you never know if the drama’s coming to an end or just beginning. While it was great that the writers cared enough about the other three girls who aren’t Carrie Bradshaw, too many plotlines make for no proper story development. You never feel that their problems are ever monumental enough to invest your emotions into it. Though there are some cheesy scenes, snappy dialogue and wit make sure that it doesn’t get unbearable. While generally enjoyable, it’s definitely a film for the fans.

To add insult to injury, LiLo is reportedly getting just US$75,000 to bare all for the part. Compare that to her role in Just My Luck two years back which earned her a cool US$ 7.5 million pay check. We can only hope that Florence, or the other movie she is doing -- The Manson Girls (where she plays a member of Charles Manson's cult following) -- will help turn the tide on her ailing movie career instead of tanking it further.

Synopsis:

Sorting through boxes of Enda’s books, the women discover a cache of self-recorded video diaries that might shed light on who Enda Doyle really was. At the funeral, the daughters see a distraught young woman from the university, Helen, rumored to be having an affair with Enda. They’re stunned that she would show up so brazenly at a family gathering for the deceased Enda.

Returning home, they find Johnny emerging half-naked from the shower, after a quick tryst with a stewardess he met on his flight from London. A brilliant, wounded slacker, Johnny manages to irritate everyone with his biting and sarcastic recall of the family’s long buried memories. Johnny’s confrontational behavior and bitter assessment of life with father incite the clan into what can only be called unchecked family therapy. Throughout the ensuing arguments, which reach a fevered pitch as the family gets inebriated waiting for guests to arrive for the wake, much is learned about the powerful and ambiguous force that was Enda Doyle.

21 Movie Review

Robert Luketic took a break from romantic comedies (the genre where he's been most comfortable) to direct 21, an entertaining, while not completely comprehensible, dramatic movie adapted from Ben Mezrich’s book, Bringing Down the House.

Loosely based on the true story of a group of MIT students who made a killing counting cards at Vegas casinos, 21 makes playing blackjack look not only exciting, but profitable. Despite a few gaping plot holes, the card action and engaging cast make this film fun for even those of us who’ve had only losing experiences at blackjack tables.

Watching actors sharpen their math skills while learning to count cards could have been the cinematic equivalent of watching paint dry, but Luketic’s done a good job of never letting the technical aspects of card counting, or what’s happening on the table, completely carry the story.

Celine, is it said, is suffering from a respiratory infection. The singer fell ill after arriving in Australia, where concert dates there too have been changed. However, Celine is seeking treatment.

In a statement through her publicists, Celine said, “I’ve been looking forward to doing these shows for so long. I am really sorry to disappoint my fans this weekend, but I can’t wait to see them on the new dates.” The superstar is expected to make a complete recovery and can resume performing at her best.

Lindsay Lohan Is Nominated For The Worst Performance

Advice for actors looking to get nominated for worst performance: multiple roles help. Lindsay Lohan and Eddie Murphy scored multiple nominations Monday for the Razzies, which sort out the worst that Hollywood dredged up the previous year.

Lohan's thriller, "I Know Who Killed Me," in which she plays two characters who may or may not be the same person, received a leading nine Razzie nominations, among them worst picture of 2007.

Murphy's "Norbit," released amid a film-honors season that earned Murphy an Academy Awards nomination for "Dreamgirls" last year, received eight Razzie nominations, five of them for Murphy alone, more than anyone has ever gotten in a single year.

Besides worst picture, "Norbit" had nominations for Murphy as worst actor in the title role, supporting actress as Norbit's beefy wife, supporting actor as an Asian man and worst screen couple for Norbit opposite either of Murphy's other characters. Murphy also shared a screenplay nomination for co-writing "Norbit."

"We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations," said Razzies founder John Wilson.

According to Wilson, Murphy's closest competition for worst screen couple is Lohan in "I Know Who Killed Me," in which she plays a small-town girl abducted by a psychopath and an alter-ego, a stripper who's missing body parts.

Lohan's movie played like a cross between the torture tale "Hostel" and "The Patty Duke Show," Wilson said.

For worst actress, Lohan polled more heavily than any actor since Sofia Coppola in "The Godfather Part III" Wilson said.

"`I Know Who Killed Me' is the most fabulously brainless movie since `Showgirls,'" which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s, Wilson said. "By the end of it, you still don't know what happened. Are they twins or aren't they? Did she imagine it? Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?"

The other worst-picture nominees were "Bratz," a live-action take on the cartoon about four chic young girls; "Daddy Day Camp," with Cuba Gooding Jr. starring in a sequel to Murphy's "Daddy Day Care"; and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry," Adam Sandler and Kevin James' comedy about firefighters posing as a gay couple.

Sandler and Gooding joined Murphy in the worst-actor category, along with Nicolas Cage for "Ghost Rider" and Jim Carrey for "The Number 23."

Jessica Alba Is Also Nominated For The Worst Performance

Lohan was cited twice as worst actress for "I Know Who Killed Me," while the four "Bratz" stars Logan Browning, Janel Parrish, Nathalia Ramos and Skyler Shaye shared a nomination. Also nominated were Jessica Alba for three films, "Awake," "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" and "Good Luck Chuck"; Elisha Cuthbert for "Captivity"; and Diane Keaton for "Because I Said So."

Along with Murphy, supporting actor included Orlando Bloom for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," James and Rob Schneider for "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" and Jon Voight for "Bratz," "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," "September Dawn" and "Transformers."

Besides Murphy, supporting actress nominees were Jessica Biel for "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" and "Next," Carmen Electra for "Epic Movie," Julia Ormond for "I Know Who Killed Me" and Nicollette Sheridan for "Code Name: The Cleaner."

Britney Spears may not completely lacking in maternal instincts after all, but it didn't help get her kids back. After Spears bailed on what was described as a "pivotal" hearing Monday, a Los Angeles court commissioner refused to reinstate any visitation rights for the troubled pop star.

As the morning session of the custody hearing wound down with no sign of Spears, multiple sources told E! News that she was weighing the possibility of showing up for the afternoon session. Her lawyer, Sorrell Trope, even phoned the pop star from the courthouse, imploring her to come.

Kevin Federline, on the other hand, showed up early, arriving just after 9 a.m. at the Los Angeles County Courthouse for the 9:30 a.m. hearing, which was closed to outsiders.

Amid much frenzy, the "Gimme More" singer finally appeared at the Los Angeles County Courthouse around 1:30 pm Monday, ostensibly to fight for the right to see her boys.

However, Spears pal Sam Lutfi told E! News via text message that the throngs of paparazzi awaiting the singer's arrival made it impossible for her to enter the building, as there was "no way to get her out of the car safely." Spears' entourage, including current boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, circled three times before giving up.

Instead, Lutfi told E! News he took Spears to church and then to get some lunch. The group dined at a Gaucho Grill restaurant near her Studio City home. In the meantime, the hearing resumed without her.

And when the dust settled Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon upheld an order barring Spears from seeing her sons, leaving the boys in the sole care of Federline at least until the next hearing, scheduled for Feb. 19.

Spears' visiting privileges were revoked earlier this month, after she refused to turn two-year-old Sean Preston and 16-month-old Jayden James over to Federline at the appointed time, leading to a three-hour showdown with police and emergency medical technicians.

The 26-year-old singer was subsequently hospitalized and placed on an involuntary hold at L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on the grounds that she was a potential danger to herself or others.

Monday's hearing was called to discuss the well-publicized meltdown and to give Spears the opportunity to provide her side of the story.

"She will have the opportunity to persuade the court that she can have some visitation under monitored conditions," Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said ahead of the hearing.

Both police and paramedics who responded to the situation were expected to testify at the hearing, which could last longer than one day, given the number of witnesses due to be called.

Sources close to Federline's camp told E! News Kaplan intended to ask the court to extend the suspension of Spears' visiting privileges until April in light of her recent behavior.

It was reported that Britney Spears attempted to commit a suicide and has been put into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for testing to see if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and for a psychological evaluation.

Spears appeared to be conscious as she was rolled out of her Studio City home on a gurney about three hours after police and ambulances arrived there. Doctors at Cedars-Sinai will decide if to invoke a California law that allows a patient to be held for psychological evaluation for 72 hours, the police spokesman said.

The police also mentioned that the children were returned to their father, Kevin Federline, who has primary legal custody of the two sons.

On her battle against her ex and a case involving her kids, I guess Britney Spears doesn't like to forgive and forget. She rather just hold grudges and act a fool. Spears is reportedly still pissed off at her parents and decided to not let her boys open any presents that came from grandpa and grandma on Christmas day.

"Britney would not let her boys open the gifts from her mom and dad," an insider told pagesix.com. "Apparently she hid them, and she told [her ex-husband] Kevin [Federline] she might send them back to her parents un-opened."

Kevin wasn't having it though! She basically decided to tell Britney off once again. "Kevin told her to stop acting like a spoiled brat," added the insider. "He asked her to give them to him and he would let them open them."

At that time Britney acted like a five year old kid and decided to brag to Kevin that she had bought a lot of nice toys for the boys. Britney "bragged a lot about what she bought them just to piss him off, but Kevin expected her to do that," said the source.

Britney acts like she's 5-years-old and sadly it's only gonna hurt the kids one day. Hopefully, those kids won't grow up to be as screwed up as we all think they might be. Maybe superdad Kevin could help cause mommy dearest doesn't really get what's going on. As far as Britney's concerned, 'It's her world and we're all just living in it.'
